l\OtVS The Colle8ian ' FebTuarv h 1991 O Cocoles: FSU should stand for Fresno's Students Unwelcofae Continued from page 5 athletic department really think students — most of whom have tight budgets — can afford to fork out that kind of money? I doubt it. 2. The Semester Break Factor — Okay, so I can afford to pay for season tickets. The price this season is good for 17 games, including games against those international powerhouses High Five America and the Finnish National Team. Problem is, only seven games are played when school is in session. The Coors Light Classic is played Thanksgiving weekend and most of our non- conference games are during the semester break. If you live in Fresno that's no problem, but for someone like me who lives out of the area, I'm left with tickets to games that I can't go to. 3. The Single Game Factor — "There will be no single gome tickets sold to students." Why? Every other sport here offers students single game prices. Of course, we can pay the standard $10 price for single games that the Red Wavers do. I was dying to see UNLV play this year (when are we going to play 'Vegas when classes are in session?). I made the 200-mile trek from the Bay area during the break for the sole purpose of seeing the number one team in the country. I reluctantly paid the 10 bucks figuring I'd have decent seats, but when my companion and I finally reached our seats, we wondered what county we crossed into. Talk about nose¬ bleed country; from my vantage point, it appeared that Tarkanian had the goatee and Stacey Augmon was chewing on a towel. I mean, this is college basketball. The guys playing on the court are students just like me. Yet I'm paying the same price as a non-student and my seats suck! Go figure. I'm sure coach Gary Colson would like the support from students at games. Colson will build this team into a winner someday and I think we students deserve to be a part of such a great game. Fresno State really needs an on-campus arena, but I know that takes time, space, and most of all money. But it's time to realize that FSU does actually stand for Fresno State University, not Fresno's Students Unwelcome. Meanwhile — "This is Keith Jackson back at Pepsi™ Selland Arena where out halftime score is Rebs 56 'Dogs 55. Dick, give us your analysis so far." "Oh baby what a game! Listen to that student section scream! Keith, these wackos are the charter members of my All-Tylenol™ Team: they give opposing coaches headaches! Better get a glass of water Dean Smith up in Chapel Hill. It's MT Migraine Time! Keith... wake up." "Oh, sorry, I thought we were in Fresno. FUMMMBLE!!!!"
