Las Vegas due mainly to two players who had been missing-m-action for the last month. > FSU tailback Aaron Craver, returned the the starting lineup after a one-game suspension to rush for 136 yards and three touchdowns, while safety Marquez Pope caused a fumble and made several big bits after missing almost a month of the season because of a shoulder Injury. "I saw some leadership surface tonight" FSU head coach - Jim Sweeney told television station KMPH 26 after the game. Fresno State Improved to 7-1-1.4-0- 1 in Big West Conference play. The Rebels dropped to 4-5. 3-2 to conference. • The 'Dogs kept pace with BWC front-runner San Jose State, which improved to 5-0 in the league and maintained its half-game lead over the Bulldogs with Its 44-6 thrashing of Cal-State Fullerton. Craver seemed to be running with new vigor after a not-so-hot October which saw the senior struggle at times, then sit because of the suspension. The tone of the game was set early when Pope, who started the game, caused UNLV quarterback Derek Stott to rumble inside his own 20-yard line. Even though the 'Dogs failed to score on their ensuing possession. Pope's Inspired play seemed to lift the rest of the team. Fresno State soccer clinches third straight title COLLEGIAN SPORTS STAFF It was a weekend of mixed emotions as the Fresno State soccer team ended regular* season and conference .play this weekend, dropping a 3-1 decision to Fullerton State on Friday, but rebounding to take a 2-1 overtime victory over UNLV Sunday to capture its third straight Big West crown. The Bulldogs, ranked No. 6 In the Soccer America poll, finish the season with a 17-3-2 record and will' now waUurfUl this afternoon to team NCAA pdlt-season playoff selections and tournament sites. The Bulldogs (8-2 conference) were throughly* manhandled In Friday's game at Fullerton, as the Titan's Steve George connected on two second-half goals to lead Fullerton to a 3-1 upset. Fresno opened the scoring on a sllghty overwatefed field Just 4:08 into the game on a penalty shot by Ricky Villa after forward CereU Elliot', was purposely tackled inside the penalty area. The Bulldogs then proceeded to fall apart In the second half as George connected pn two'free kicks, one Into the upper right comer and one straight ahead to put Fullerton (7-8-3 overall, 4-4-1 conference) ahead 2-1.
