I could tell a pointless story about ph one sex. or shop¬ ping malls, but would you care? No, I could bitch and moan and attack hordes of innocent people, but will I? No. The ones I'm after are the guilty ones. People who. for all their good inb-nrions, are the only racists visible in the campus' eye. Those wtaii nrreara the Tarowt- ■ "White" in every sentence that erupts from their ruurow mouths. We are C-A-U-C-A-S-I-A-N-& Can you spell that, boys and girts? I thought not. 'coz W-H -I-T-E is much, much easier. Shorter too. "Bffectlveay irritated everyone with a brain on campus." was what one C-A-U-C-A-S-I-A-N said about yesterday's column by Ignaclo Sanchez. Mr. Sanchez, and the people he represents, is annoying the wrong people. Not outraging, not Inciting outbreaks of interracial and brotherly or sisterly love, but Just plain turning us (possibly non— C-A-U-C-A-S-I-A-N-S as well) off of the movement Who wants to follow a group of fro thing-at-the - mouth revolutionaries? Espec tally revolutionaries who are in power, as Mr. Sanchez so eloquently pointed out in his column yester¬ day. If-ive.theW-H-J-T-Bs ,.: populataon caTt*"aaa*rcaa"i*fpos await OppaT **a*ja*a"*, and dfiatitet Iwg force, the way to change us is not to pull our tail, kack us. beat us with youwworrjs or otherwise abuse us. You dont succe ■■fully run for office (re-election) by kicking your constituents In the teeth day after day. You had the wolfs attention. Now you have lost it. We don't believe in this kind of governing body. And I for one won't support it next semester, come election time. Call me racist, gang, but please return the favor. In a day and age when the world rages with wars and rumors of wars, and every form of the media seems overwhelmed with features of abuse, murder, rape, kidnaping, fraud and other such negative acts. I'm sure that many of us sometimes tend to focus on the negative aspects of life. Or at least I do. But. not today. This morning on my way to work. I stopped at an Arco station to get gas. When I got back into my car after fueling up. I turned the key to find no response whatsoever. • Instantly I knew my battery had to be dead, and 1 tried to think of exactly what to do. as opposed td my usual tendency to panic. I was concerned about blocking anyone's way. at eight o'clock on a busy weekday morning. Within a few minutes, a man pulled behind me. and waited patiently for me to pull forward. When he saw me try to push my car out of the way, he quickly Jumped out of his own, and proceeded to help me. I was grateful enough for that; but then he told me he had cables, and offered to give me a start. As he jump-started my car. he » mentioned that my tires looked low. I nodded'and thanked him for helping me. but before I could leave, he pulled out a tire gauge and proceeded to check my tire pressure and give them some more air. I thanked him again, and wished him a good day. As I drove away from the station and continued to work. I couldn't 7 Ways to live more ecologically 1 Avoid disposable ilems in favor ol reusable ones 2 Buy large quantities lo reduce shopping trips 3 Drive a fuel efficient cor 4 Orve less walk, bicycle, carpo 5 Heal your home less and ■-.-. . help being overcome with feelings of gratitude and awe. This man had never met me before, and probably had better things to" do with his time than help some automobile-illiterate get her car started. For all I know, he could have been late to work himself. But I s til 1 couldn't help thinking that, true. Jump-starting someone's car may not be that big of a deal. It was Just his simple act of kindness that touched me. His willingness to go out of his way., and do something in which he, in no way at all, would benefit from. . Today, the world, at best, seems to be obesessed with a "me-flrst" attitude. With the sophisticated technological advancements of modem times, there seems to be an attitude that accompanies society, which sometimes tends to make me worry about where the ideas of ethics and morals have gone. While our knowledge grows, our priorities seem to be reverting back to barbaric times when all that mattered was pleasing oneself. I don't really feel that I am so close-minded as to believe that , there are no gooi people left in the world. I beheve there are more than we know, and I also believe many people are sensitive to the values, needs and ethics which ■ " make us human. All I'm saying is that, as of late.
