Of course the big story on the FSU defense has been the plight of senior defensive lineman Nick Ruggeroll. _ Ruggeroli is sidelined for the rest of the season with a severe case of pneumonia which caused him to miss the UNLV game. It will be interesting to see how his loss will affect a defense which has had problems getting emotionally prepared for an opponent this year. The Improved play of quarterback Mark Barsottl over the last two games has given the whole Bulldog offense a lift Barsottl has passed for 554 yards In the last two games, both easy victories, while completing 29-of-57 passes. He completed 15-of-29 passes for a career-high 314 yards in the Bulldogs' 45-18 win over the Rebels last week. Barsottl hasn't enjoyed much success historically against the Tigers, however. In his two games against UOP. Barsottl has completed only 39 percent of his passes (16-for- 41) for only 199 yards. v Senior running back Aaron Craver had one of his strongest games of the" season last week, gaining 136 yards and three touchdowns. It was his second-straight 100-yard rushing game, fourth this season and. 12th In 20 major college games. In last season's 27-14 FSU win at Pacific, Craver led Ihe team wlUi 135yards. NOTES- The Bulldogs' current 20- game unbeaten BWC unbeaten (19-0-1) streak Is a league record... FSU also carries a 22-game unbeaten streak (21 - 0-1) into the game... The last time the 'Dogs were defeated at home was a 20- 16'setback to San Jose State on Oct. 17. 1987... Senior linebacker Ertck Tanuvasa had a team-high 15 tackles vs. UNLV and leads the team in that capacity with 103... Saturdays game will mark the final home game for 18 Fresno State seniors. Dole said of Johnson, "he has the ability to strike a blow and transfer weight without being out of control. He's also continuing to grow In leadership ability." Because of his weight, he has obtained various nicknames such as "Overweight Lover" and "Biscuit". He was tagged with "Biscuit" because it was once said he was one buscuit shy of 300 pounds. -Johnson said his friends In Lynwood call him "Babe." Dole also says Johnson's weight is not a problem. "He might have a problem with endurance as the game wears on. but lhat is about It. He plays well,at his weight, but I think he realizes he's carrying a little excess baggage he really doesnl need- Johnson gets teased by opposing players, but he doesn't let it get to him. "When they say something to me, I Just turn and look at them. I don't say anything to them. I Just took at the guy's number and say to myself "I'm gonna get'im.* Johnson's primary Influence is his father, who received a football scholarship to Michigan, but had to decline It because he had already started a family and had Joined the work force. "My dad. along with his soon-to-be- wife. Sandy Parker-Johnson, are my biggest fans." Johnson said. "They've been to every home game and some of , the road games as well." - Johnson's love for football exists because of the "togetherness of being a team member andthe fierceness of the game. I also like to prove to myself that I am tough and can get. the Job done." Johnson also reflected on his fallen teammate, defensive lineman Nick Ruggeroll. "He is a great leader and I feel bad for him. But this gives us a little extra Incentive to play well and win it all for him," he said. When Johnson prepares to take the field tomorrow night against UOP and dons his gloves that he refers to as his "weapons", he will be ready to "block 'em and knock 'em down." ' t.
