The Bulldogs, who have won 55 of their last 62 dual meets, have not lost a dual at Warmerdam since national power Oregon defeated them 97-66 in 1987. Reggie Jackson soared to new career bests In winning both the long (25-1 1/2) and triple jumps (54-9 1/2) in helping the Bulldog men run away from Cal ~*"tate Los Angeles (124-38) and Occidental (139-22) and up their record to 10-3 on the year. The two-*tlme All-American came within one-half Inch of ■ breaking Henry Ellard's school triple mark set eight years ago. Jackson's leap Is the top collegiate jump In the nation thus lax in the outdoor season. Jackson was also the mird-ranked U.S. TJ'er Indoors (53-5 1/2). FSU' dominated both meets, winning 14 of 19 events and sweeping six events. Jackson., hurdler Richard Holmes and distance ace Rod Heskett led the way wilh double victories. Holmes breezed through the 110- meter hurdles In 14.35. with teammates Tom Perry (15.18) and , Brian Kondeff (15.21) following close behind. Holmes (53.65) and teammate Sean Johnson (53.86) took one-two in the 400-meter hurdles as well. The Bulldogs' dominance was at. its peak in the distance running events, scoring 32 of a possible 36 points from 800 meters and up. Rod Heskett paved the way. finishing strong to break the tape in the 1,500 meters (3:54.90) and came back later to win the 800 meters in a seasonal-best 1:52.78. Jason Uneau was close behind, finishing second in the 800 (1:53.15) and 1.500 meters (3:55.09). David Naranjo (9:19.41), Jamey Harris (9:27.39) and Kelly Dodge (9:36.56) all ran season bests to sweep the staplechase. Former West German national junior steeplechase Chris¬ tian Slang displayed an outstanding kick, , sitting on the heels of Cal State LA Ail-Americans Jesus Gulllerez and Jose Hernandez before blowing past ihem on the final lap to win the 5,000 meters (14:40.37). Olher winners included: Bill Hepworth. high lump (7-0); Andy Harris, hammer throw (198-4): Keith Jones, shot put (50-11 1/2) and Todd Sprague in the pole vault (16-61 /2). The Bulldog women also won a pair or duals, holding off Washington (79- 56) and beating Occidental (122-22). Heptathlete Blrglt Bauer led the way with a double victory in the 110 hurdles (14.79) and long Jump (18-9 1/2). Donna McKinnon scored eight points in the throwing events, winning the discus (150-10) and finishing second In the shot put with a personal best toss of 41-5 3/4, In her first meet since leading the Bulldog basketball team to a fifth- place finish at the Nation "Women's Invitational Tournament. Simone Srubek cleared 5-10 to win the high jump while teammate Christie Olson finished second (5-6). The Big West's top three Javeline throwers continued to own that event as Bulldog Chris Harris (160-0). Danene Bitter (147-11) and Nicole Carroll (145-5) took the top three spots again Saturday. FSU faired well In the sprint events recording 29 points. Including victories in the 400- and 1.600-meter relays. • Senior sprinter Dionne Garner ran a seasonal best 24.74 to lead an FSU sweep of the 200-meters. Freshmen Cindy Hill and Tina Davis finished tied for second at 25.36. Hill also finished second in the 100 meters (12.37) and Rhonda Green was second in the 400 meters (57.11). This week. Fresno State hosts the 62nd annual Fresno Relays Friday and Saturday at RatclifTe Stadium.
