The African Peoples History Month Celebration started out with an early morning dedication , and a lecture from Dorothy Cotton-close aide to Dr. Martin Luther King. On February 3,1990 the 7th annual African American Conference was held where over 600 local high school and transfer students attend.
February 9,1990 was set a side to celebrate 20 years of African American Studies on the CSUF campus. Keynote speaker was Assembly¬ woman Teresa Hughes. The Alpha Kappa Alpha held a women's forum on the 10th, to help bring women of color in^touch with major issues confronting them.
Children's day was held on February 16th to give African American students the opportunity to participate in oral and written competitions. Also First Black Music Awards was hosted by the National Soeiety of Black Engineers on the 17th.' The event was educational, entertaining, . and historical.
Molefi Asante was the keynote speaker for African night held on the 23rd. The audience had the chance to watch local African dancers and a African fashion show before the lecture. Gospel night was held on the 28th and was a very uplifting event for those in attendance. In all the African Peoples History Month committee has stressed the importance of celebrating African culture 365 days of the year.
