OPEN 7 DAYS 226-7383 Two Fresno State atheletes were honored last Friday as Big West Scholar-Athletes of the Year at the 1989-90 Big West Scholar-Athlete Luncheon In Long Beach. All-American softball pitcher Carrie Dever and All-American golfer David Sutherland were chosen because of their outstanding efforts in the classroom, as well as their endeavors on the playing field. Dever. a senior Health Science major, holds a 3.38 accumulative grade point average. She has been a three-year member of the Fresno State Honor Roll and Dean's LlsL Dever was named lo the GTE-CoSlDA Academic All American third team tn 1988 and made the U.S. Achievement All- American team In 1987 and 1988. On the field. Dever has been a starter at pitcher and third base for the three winningest FSU softball teams tn the school's history. She poets a combined 42-14 record over.'the last two seasons, and is 9-1 so lar this year. Sutherland, a history major who graduated in 1989. posted a 3.30 accumulaUve GPA during his career at Fresno State. He made the Dean's List four consecutive semesters from 1987 to 1989. and was honored by the Golf Coaches Association of America as an All-American Scholar at the 1989 NCAA Championship. Sutherland achieved All-American honors for golf twice In his career. He was named to the All-American third team in 1987. and earned second-team All-American honors last year. He was the Most Valuable Player of the 1987 FSU team that was ranked No. 3 In the country and finished ninth in the NCAA Championship at Ohio State. He was ranked by Golf Digest Magazine as the ninth best amatuer nationally upon finishing his collegiate eligibility. ALFREDO'S 488 W. The proposed expansion of the Satellite Student Union and the construction of a University Student Union multi-purpose building will soon be put to a student referendum vote. . On Wednesday, April 18,1990, the University Student Union will ask the students of California State University, Fresno to vote to increase the presentsrudent union fee of $38 per semester to support the sale of revenue bonds, and the construction and operation of this proposed $16 million Expansion Project. Beginning Spring 1991, the fees will increase as follows: 1991 - $18 per semester, 1992 - $12 per semester, 1993 - $12 per semester. The total studentt union fee after three years of increases will be $80 per semester.
