Ten-year-old Vincent Rodriguez is a fourth-grader at Oak Grove and he chose to do a rap entitled. The 404 Shuffle." Judge for festival and also a student In the Speech Department said thatmostof the Judges for the festival are graduate and undergraduate students who volunteer to help out In this proj¬ ect The children are Judged on preparation, voice articulation, clarity, gestures, sincerity and overall performance," she said. "It's a good experience for the kids. It's wonderful that they want to.perform. they're so brave,"said Carey. Susie Kallnan, a pre-med stu- dentatCSUF. said she heard about the program from speech professor Dr. George DiesteL "I'm not a speech maj or. bu r I am taking a speech course In persua- slonspeech. I think the program Is Important for building self-esteem In children." she said. "All of the children go away win¬ ners. After their performance, they are evaluated as being superior. excellent, good or fair and then given a certificate for their partici¬ pation," Kallnan said.
