Personhood found in individuality Dear Editor, People who live in Glass houses shouldn't throw clones. Sorry, Chris, 1 don't have a thing against you, it's just that your name always seems to be pinned to the best material. I must say. your choice of tools — bones and computers - is incredible and reveals what a versatile guy you are. Seriously, though. I'm writing because I just saw your letter of Oct. 26; somehow I missed it before. I want to apologize for having apparently misunderstood you. Insofar as you challenge those who want to "hold out to be [their] own specific element." I believe I agree. Factions and fractions do none of us any good. Yet I still feel you are wrong to blast vocal minority groups who refuse to accept the status quD. If every time a member of a minority group speaks out against racial injustice, we say "they" are overplaying the racism issue, we're committing the same mistake as those who say, "All whites (blacks, Mexicans, etc.) are racist." The crime of Racism and Sexism is Categorization of the Individual. The failure to realize an individual as an individual strips from him or her that which is most vital: Personhood. Rick Horowitz P.S. Chris; thanks for continuing the dialogue. FOR THE RECORD It is the policy of this paper to strive to maintain the highest degree of accuracy in its reporting. However, errors will inevitably occur due to the high volume of material being handled each day. Significant errors can be brought to our attention by calling 294-2486. It is, of course, the machine that is shrouded In mystery, fascinating the nation - no. the world - with all of its complexities and intricasies. It is, of course, the copy machine. You may ask yourself, what has gone wrong over the years with this hunk of metal? What is the behind-the-scenes scoop on the machines? Let's go on location in the CSUF library to get the opinion of the staff and students on these intriguing questions. Philosophy major Jane Outthere believes that the copy machine does not really exist. "I have contemplated this existence question for my whole college career," she said, "and I have come to the conclusion that nothing exists." JimKnowitall, amemberof the library staff. Is on the Sub¬ committee of Copy IVlachine Dislocations and let the Collegian in on its policy. "We looked at the layout of the library and decided to place tlfe copy machines in the most inconvenient places possible for the students." he said. Anolhermemberofthe library's senior staff, who asked to remain anonymous, says the university buys as few machines as possible so that they will break down at least once a day from overuse. Disgruntled student and psychology major Aaron Read- intoeverything. has his own theory on the copy niachine breakdowns. "I think the copy machines actually have emotional break¬ downs resulting from the over¬ load of depressing information that they 'see' over the years." he said. Bruce "the Brute" Imsobuff. who claims he has never had a problem with the machines, says it's because he knows how to treat them. "Ail you got to do is kick the %&©!*#!! thing about four times and Jt will deliver." said Imsobuff. an indusbialbasketweaving major. But the real key to solving the mystery of the rrialfunctioriing machines may lie with the maintenance people responsible for their downkeep. "We usually sit on them during our coffee break," said Rex M. Up, a copy repair technician. "Inevitably, someone will spill ^me coffee or crumbs into the machine. "We don't bother to clean them out." he said. "One time we pu t a couple of jelly doughnuts Inside just to see what would happen." We have heard from the staff, students, and workers now on this rathercomplex problem. If one thing is apparent from this enlightening expose, it is that nothing is going to change at all. A spokesperson for the Departmcnffor Student Incon¬ venience verified this fact. "We work very hard around here to battle any kind of positive change for the students," said the spokesperson, who declined to be identified because of rampant paranoia. 'We believe it Is a learning experience for them to deal with frustration." The Daily Collegian PERSONALS What better way to tell that special someone that you really give a buck?
