The CSUF Department of
Agriculture has one of the largest crop
and animal laboratories In the CSU
system. Next to the University of
California at Davis, CSUF has some
of  the   most   modern   technologies
available for research in plant and
animal science.
According to the School of
Agricultural Sciences and
Technology, the CSUF farm consists
of 1,150 acres on and around the
campus. Not included in this is the
4.500 acres of dry range in O'Neals,
which is located about 30 mites north
of Fresno.
O'Neals is a joint operation with
the U.S. Department of Agriculture
and is used mainly for cattle grazing.
An experimental station on the site is
used by UC Berkeley and Cal Poly.
San Luis Obispo for research
purposes. The U.S. Department or
Forestry also uses the land for
training.
Along with the laboratories,
equipment and research facilities
comes an enormous cost to the school.
Harry P. Karie, associate dean of ag
operations, said that the CSUF ag
department's budget runs between $3-
3.5 inillion per year. This money
provides maintenance for the land,
equipment and buildings.
Karie. who oversees all budgetary
items for the CSUF form operations.
