Loreazen StaffWriter The marathon continues. 0 Tuesday's ASI meeting, which began at 3 p.m., ended at 7 p.m. when the room was needed for other use. In four hours, the senate approved Dennis Hilton for ASI Quotes - the annual audit — announced several events and accepted six people for committee appointments. The flrst hour was spent trying to decide whether the agenda should be accepted. The time was fraught with argument over recommendations and applications and motions and amendments — all centered around what time during the meeting the senate should discuss the application of Ken Johnston for the Finance and Budget committee. • Ultimately, after Legislative Vice President Kathleen Solano voiced "serious concerns" about the changes and Jose Lopez, assistant to President Karen Cogley, shouted to President pro tern Ted Hallisey. 'You're out of order man," the senate decided to put the issue under the personnel report At 4 p.m.. Solano announced item number four, approval ofthe minutes. There was some argument over whether the names of senators who leave meetings early should remain' intheminutes. Last week it was decided that no action would be taken concerning those who left early until the Issue was taken up by the Legal and Legislative committee, yet several names were Included as part of last week's minutes. The discussion was resolved and the minutes were approved. Under communications. Senator Katbl Machado said the senate would tour the university farms Nov. 9. Hallisey spoke about an upcoming AIDS ad hoc committee meeting and an AIDS conference.. "The basic necessities are being Ignored for millions of people — the buyer, consumers need to make the effort to be educated about the products placed before them. "We accept ths corporate definition of freedom,*' he said, "which is the corporate definition of controlling us.*" He added that right now people don't have the information they need to be able to start a consumer- side economy. And addressing the students in the audience he said, "From this night on students should say that they will be leaders for Justice as they see it in the United States." In addition, he said that students should take what they are learning in college to promote this leadership. "Put knowledge into action," said Nader.
