DearSir. ■ I am responding to a letter. "Clarification by committee applicant," which appeared in your Monday edition above the signature of a Mr. Ken Johnston. Who do you think you are and where do you think you are, Mr. Johnston? In the land of guaranteed free speech? Any more letters from /ou suggesting that ability should be msidered for any position at this [ university and I will see to it that the Haak Committee on Racism has your name along with those others who have been writing about the position of parliamentarian. There is a long history of yoi ytor committees appointed to protect people like me from persons like you: the Inquisition, the Star Chamber. Cotton Mather and his groupies, kangaroo • courts lynch moba. McCarthy and his committee, etc. We should be proud that one day Fresno State will be recognized for its contribution to political and judicial history alongside those comrjjiuees mentioned above. You'll get yours!!! And finally, for those who ihink the above is an attack on Mr. Johnston, let me repeat myself and assure you that, like a similar piece written by Mr. Nash in response to a letter by me published in the Daily Disappointment some time ago, this letter Is in the form of English known as SATIRE. Some on this campus are forgetting that ability is present In all races and both sexes, and by doing so are exposing not their racism but their ignorance. Ivan Rowe Closets lie behind closed doors DearEdltor, I would like to ■ address Paul Kunkel's letter of Oct 26. Mr. Kunkel, you expressed your opinion that what people do in their own home Is their right but it should stay behind closed doors. I would only like to say that I wish it were that simple. There are . few people who completely separate (heir private from their public'lives. Everyone at work has a picture of their significant other on their desk, except me. There are also pictures of their children, shining examples of what they do behind closed doors. You may say that I, too. am free to display my photos,' but according to your letter I am not, for must "we advertise and flaunt evtnything." Because of attitudes like yours, I will continue to let people think I'm single, though IVe been In a loving, monogamous relationship for eight years. During the holidays Til endure looks of pity from well-meaning co¬ workers who think I have no family, though in actuality my relationship is more stable than some of theirs. Well, Geoffrey, I can only assume that you're basing this on Leviticus 18:22, "No man is to have sexual relations with another man- God hates that" Since you seem to have such faith In biblical law I'm sure you have no Walt Kelley's TOG© problem with. "Whoever curses his father or his mother is to be put to death" (Ex. 20:15). "Suppose a man is caught raping a girl who is not engaged. He is to pay the girl's father the bride price of fifty pieces of silver, and she is to become his wife" (Dt 22:28-29), or. Why is it that the current campaign against controlled substances, the'"war on drugs''is ' aimed at making fifth graders in Clovis feel good that they are living right? The media tells us dally, albeit incorrectly, that the only people who use drugs are minorities, specifically black people. It's 18-year-old black high school drop-outs that sell all the drugs in America. It's little 8-year-old black kids on bikes who warn the pushers about cops in the area. And it's young unwed black welfare mothers who use crack. No one else. Period. Well, if this is the case, why isn't the ad campaign focused on inner-city black kids? . Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the "warriors on drugs" realize white folks do it too. And we can't have that leaking to society. So we try to curb the tide befon. anyone finds out. We use stupid inane prime-timr commercials to make people think that we're actually doing something, bust a couple ofloader trucks in Nevada and send the rest, of the money to the Coiura: Why can't Lhe current administration separate itself from the tactics ofthe Reagan administration andacrtualiy tak?— a stand. Do something, preferably the right thing. Put the focus ofthe "war" on a corner in inner-city Chicago, or the Bronx or somewhere in LA. Get the cartoons and the culsie campaign strategies away from the Cosby show where ad rates run so high and build a drug rehab center in Cbmpton. Or in Ojange County for that matter.' . Take a look at your own set of personal stereotypes. Realize that not all gold bavin' Fila wearin' fly mutha's with beepers are drug dealers. Realize it's a style, j ust like power ties.
