Being a senior, It is the dream that this season would be the season. And, like teams before, the promise has been made that the team will do it for the seniors. "Every year, we say "Do It for the seniors.' We have to do it for us." One thing Lopes aees the team not doing is communicating during right situations. "We start to get quiet and tense." she said. While during these situations the lack of communication permeates the team. Lopes' goals include permeating the bus tries*. work with communcadon. She Is majoring in business with an emphasis on information management "It is a new field coming up and has a lot of openings." She sees herself as a business woman in a big corporation. The use of such visualization helps Lopes get out of her slumps in volleyball Ss "If Tm starting to mess up. I picture a perfect hit" she said. She also talks to the other players to help get them np. Looking up is what a lot of young Fresno State volleyball fans do to Lopes **men they approach her for an autograph. Every year, we say, 'Do it for the seniors.1 We have to do it for us. FSU volleyball player Lesli Lopes "Ha weird," she said ofthe yougsters" admiration. 1 really think It's cute." It was not Lopes' dream as a Madera High School standout to remain in the San Joaquin Valley and go to school. But she said the way the school, fans and department treated Its athletes, along with a full scholarship, were the determinates to her decision to stay. SWIMMING Continued from page 9 Intermediate. Another Junior, Christine Sweetland, trarisfen-ed from West Valley College where she specialized to sprinting freestyle and butterfly, McKeever commented that "with the longer college season, shell do better and should see real improvement" Freshman Mariela Lanca swam at Mission Vtejo before coming to FSU. McKeever describes Lanca as another Lanca and distance •nrtmrrjer with Junior national experience. McKeever said primarily butterfly freestyle. -She should help us with the distance events," TAcKcewr said. McKeever said this year's squad is young. The only senior on this team lsTarmann. "Right now. both teams are at different stages of development," McKeever said. "The women are at the stage where they could compete with anyone in the conference. "However, both UC Santa Barbara and Las Vegas are ahead of us," McKeever said. "The key to a good season will be keeping intensity."
