According to Zilbergeld, studies show
that most couples who date have had
sexual relations by the end of the third
date.
The suggestion of sex therapists is to
get into sex more slowly, lo try to get to
know 3.prospective partner better.
"When'you take things slow, beautnui
things happen," Zilbergeld said.
Finally, the use of condoms and
spermicides is vital in any modern sexual
relationship, Barbach said.
While condoms do not offer guaranteed
protection against pregnancy or the spread
of sexually transmitted diseases, they can
form an effective barrier when properly
used, according to Barbach.
The pair outlined the rules of smart
condom use, and humorously showed
how to bring up the often delicate subject
with a partner.
Zilbergeld said that males can practice
using condoms by themselves so they
will be more comfortable with a partner.
"Vegetables are terrific" for.females to
practice condom use on, Barbach added.
■ The most important factor in handling
the growing complexity of modern sexual.
relationships is to find out about your
own attitudes, and leant bow to talk
about them, according to Zilbergeld.
"Good sex is possible in these times,"
he said.
"It's your right to be sexual, it's your
right to not be sexual. The important
thing is to take care of yourself," Barbach
concluded.
