The construction of the new Bucket, located be¬ tween the Vintage Room and the Old Cafeteria, is part of a larger renovation effort that includes the Old Cafeteria and, if funds hold up, the Vintage Room as well. The entire renovation endeavor is funded solely from Fresno State Food Service's previous earnings, said Rick Finley. administrator of Campos Food Service. According to Finley, the renovation is an attempt to turn a money guzzler into a money maker. The old Bucket, which was 34 years old, had seen its heyday long ago. It, along with the Old Cafeteria, said Finley, had been losing between S20,000-$40,000 yearly for the past couple of years. "Now it's time for the Bucket to start earning its keep," Finley said. "A Lot of money has been put into it," According to Finley, the cost of reconstrucung the bar was approximately 5200,000, a figure within budget estimates. Finley said the design of the new bar was done in consultation with students, faculty and administrative staff. The bar is the "best guess," he says, of what they wanted to see. What students will see is a bar replete with the makings of an upscale bistro. The exterior of the Bucket is red brick and glass. Backer, former registrar at Kent State University in Ohio, will replace acting director Carroll Cotten Wednesday, who succeeded former director Kent Davies. "It's exciting, moving to a system that with a touch-tone phone you can register from anywhere in the world," said Backer.
