The Qatfy Collegian Thursday. February 2. 1989 Pagc5 Horse-care class A class on "The Fundamentals of Horse Care and Feed" will meet in room 109 of the Agriculture building and judging pavilion Feb. 11 at 9:00 am. Horse experts from the UC Cooperative extension are sponsoring this program. The four and one-half hour course will touch on subjects such as horse health and nutrition, misconceptions about horse care and special needs of pregnant mares and foals. Also, there will be demonstrauons on distinguishing hay quality, spotting blemishes and unsoundness of horse conformation, and more. Speakers include Aaron Nelson of the UC Cooperative Extension and Anne RodiekofCSUF. The class fee is $7 and advance registration is required. For more details contact Norma Ray at 891-2500. Fine dance Friday The critically-acclaimed Bay Area Repertory Dance Company will perform in concert at the Satellite Student Union tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. Led by choreographer and founder David Wood, the company has produced dancers who have performed with the Paul Taylor, Merce Cunningham and Gus Solomon dance companies. Wood has been called a "sensitive and intuitive choreographer" by the New York Times and won the Distinguished Teacher Award at UC Berkley, where he is a professor, in 1987. The company's purpose is to provide performing experience to young dancers interested in pursuing careers in dance, as well as offering reasonably-priced professional quality concert program. Tickets costs are S3.00 for students and $4.00 for general admission. The nauonal Society of Arts and Letters is offering a free master class with the company prior to the show. The class will be held in room 134 of the South Gym fom 3 pm. to 4:30. Elderhostel course The Interdisciplinary GcrAntology Program at CSUF will sponsor two one- week "Elderhostel" courses at the Wonder Valley Ranch east of Fresno. The courses, scheduled for February 5- 11 and June 4-10, are open to anyone 60 or older, regardless of educational background Participants will be able to take an all- day field trip to Icam the life story of the Sequoia redwoods found in Sequoia and Kings Canyon national parks. Other features include a series of lectures on how to understand and live with the differences between the people of the USSR and United States, as well as classroom instruction on the history and present-day life of the Wonder Valley. The Elderhostel program is sponsored by more than 850 colleges, universities and other educational institutions in the U.S., Canada and more then 30 other countries. The speech will center on "Ethics and Transplantations" and is pan of a series on controversial issues in contemporary theory and practice in the natural sciences, primarily the physical sciences, medical training and practices and ethics. William Kessler of CSUF will adress the issue of Ethics and Access to Health Care in his Feb. 13 lecture. Donna Groh of the Los Angeles Children's Hospital is the featured speaker Feb. 27. The series format features not only speakers, but also student reports and discussions. The course*; will be open to all health and science preprofessioriais.
