It's likely that the only thing that prevented Ostrorn from breaking the FSU Pentathlon record was die fact that be was using a new javelin in traduced in 1986 and not the same one used in the MMlta The old javelin, better balanced than the new one, traveled at least 10 percent farther, and with it, Ostrorn probably would have been able to chalk up an estimated 72 points in Saturday's competition. "That's what 1 set out to do, achieve the school record," said Ostrorn, "But all my performances had to be my best or equal to them so that really helped out. "1 was really pleased because I didn't think I'd throw the javelin as far as I did. I kind of bad a feeling I'd throw the hammer that far because I had been practicing well. I had some good throws to practice with, but the javelin was a real big surprise." Bill McDonnell, a Cal State- Bakersfield ledshirt .ompcting unattached, was second with 3,775 points. Fresno State's Andy Harris took third with 3,721 points, Scott Biber- thaler of Fresno City College finished fourth with 3,686 points, and Bulldog Daron Crass ran up 3,635 points to place fifth.
