Armour, who will compete in the 500-meter run, ran at nearby Farleigh Dickenson Univeristy (Jersey City, N.J.) before transfering to Fresno State this year. Gaffney popped off his best jump ever in his specialtiy, the long jump, last year at Northern Arizona's Skydome. That leap, 26-11, was one of the top indoor marks in the world last year. Gaffney went 25-6 at the same location this year to qualify for his next straight trip to the indoors championships. Armour is also taking part in his second consecutive indoors championships, having qualified while competing for Farleigh Dickenson. Armour comes in with a 1:02.19 clocking. Cameron Baxter, the school record holder in the shot put, will take part in the 35-pound weight competition having hurled the large mass 62-6'/, this season. Another Bulldog. Matt Mileham has the distance to qualify in the same event but has used up all his indoors eligibility but will take part in the outdoor season this Sophomore Clint Williams is the first alternate in the triple jump. Carver (167 pounds), Ismay (126) and Vega(134) all gained titles at the PCAA championships in Las Vegas on February 24. Saenz finished third but thanks to his glistening 42-6 season mark was awarded a coveted at large berth. All four wrestlers will be aiming to finish in the top six which would guarantee them the status of All-American. If all four could pull the feat the Bulldogs would be assured of an impressive finish in the team stand-ings. Last spring students enjoyed basketball, softball and water polo, while rac- quetball and tennis tournaments were held in both semesters to eager string Even more impressive is the number of students who annually flock to the intra mural-recreation office to get their names on team sign-op lists. A total of 4,331 names appeared on those lists during the !9._-_lschoolyea_. representingsoughly 25 percent of CSUF's total student body, according to Val Valverde, director of the intramural-recitation program. About $2,500 is donated while another $3,000 cooks from team feet. A $10 fee is charged to each team that enters competition. Valverde said that her office has tried to find ways to do away with the fee, but has found it to be an economic necessity. Expenditures include awards, depreciation of equipment and a membership fee. in the National Recreation Sports Association. Awards include the treasured intramural t-shirt, given each member of The biggest layout of funds for tbe program goes right back into the student body, Valverde pointed out. Eighty percent of the budget goes for officials and score keepers, many of whom are students. The intramural-recreation office provides $20,000 worth of student jobs each year. Earlier this season Ismay battled tough Oar Anderson of Oklahoma Stale, ihe defending national champion, at 134 pounds, to a scoreless draw. Weight problems and injuries have hampered Vega's season but the Senior standout has regrouped to fight his way to. the NCAA finals. Vega brings a 17-7-1 record to New Jertey.
