TheOwty • Students complete wildlife management project : in the San Joaquin Valley has been uomplttod by four California State University, Fresno students Geography gradutae students Ted Wwden of Dtnuba. Tom Truszkowskj of Jackson, Michigan, and Don Williams of Woodlake, along with botany student Bruce Bingham of Stockton have completed the first comprehensive mapping Patient rronitoring equipment workshop scheduled The Centor for Omtinuing Education in the Health Professions at California State University, Patient Monitoring Equipment The one-day program will be held Friday, Oct 12, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Room 264 of the Old Science Building at CSUF The course wiN be conducted by Mel Z Da Costa and Or Donald Holmes, both faculty members in the CSUF Department of Physics Patient monitoring equipment has become so much a part oi ttw medical scene ttwt an understanding of the basic electronic instruments has become mandatory for medical personnel At the completion of the program, par- ticipants should know how patient mon- effectiveiy, and how to perform simple and practical troubleshooting For further information and nsgistxa- tion malarial, contact the Center for Continuing Education in the Health Professions at CSU, Fresno, telephone 447 2964 of stream-side vegetation in the Valley The prefect was funded by a $21,000 grant from the California Department of Fish and Came Using aerial slides from the Department of Water Raoourcii and high altitude U-2 photographs, the group mapped on area whsch extended from the northern edge of San Joaquin County to the grapevine south of Bakersfield The northern portion of the Sacramento Valley was mapped by a teem from Chico State; a teem from 0srkoie> mapped the desert regions in California By protecting ttw slides the group could viiuaBy determine the type of voaSatton growing in a particular area- Areas were datssfwd into such groups os large woody vegetation, valley oak woodUnds, agricultural land, marsh and urban land Field checks determined the group had a 90 percent accuracy rate in interpreting the aerial photographs The students May 30 and are now wrapping things up The results? Sasd Ted Wieden, *Wt were surprised to see how little riparian vegetation is left In places it's almost nonexistent.'
