THE DAILY COLLEOtAN Thuraday. September 3 Rainbows bring Hawaiian punch By Chuck Knox CoUegian Sports Editor Darryl Rogers says 'the University of Hawaii ls the best team we wUl face this year, even better than San Diego or Long Beach.* The Bulldog coach has good reason to feel that way. The Rainbows, 9-2 last year with a 10th naUonal coUegedlvlsion rating, return JfO lettermen off a team that destroyed FresnoState at the Islands, 49-0. Tne Rainbows also bring to the Mainland an opening 44-6 win over Llnfleld CoUege last week and their LltUe AU-Coast tall- back Larry Sherrer. Sherrer, at 0-foot-2, 210 pounds, ls probably the best back that wlU face the Bulldogs this year. As most people know by now the Dodgers were soundly annihilated by the Astros 11-0 while the Giants had only to beat the lowly Padres to win the National League West pennant. As Glenn Dickey, columnist of the San Francisco Chronicle, put lt, 'the chances are great that the Dodgers wlU lose all three games with Houston while the Giants wlU lose two of three with the Padres. HeU, neither team wants to win the damn pennant. What will probably happen ls that the two clubs will Ue for the title and force a play-off In 'The City,' but I don't beUeve that either club will show up. * time last year.
