Under the Federal 1899 Refuse Act, anyone found guilty of polluting any waterway ts subject to fines of not less than $500 and not more than $2500 for each violation. Under the act, one-half of the fine Imposed may be paid to the person giving Information which leads to the conviction. Last year, some energeUc teenagers spent their summer canoeing down lakes, rivers and United SUtes, They collected evidence on over 70 possible violators and now stand a chance of making close to J1OO.00O If court rulings against the possible violators stand In their favor.
