I believe in National Defense- against an economic system which lacks sufficient opportunities lot the- young, makes possible- an army of millions of unemployed, and lacks adequate Security for I believe- in National De-iense- against political demagogues and all vested inte-re-sts which tampd in any way with th ^e- rights of freedom of speech, press, and assemblage as guaranteed by the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. J I believe in National Defense- against the futile I faith that a strong army and navy is all that is ' needed to preserve and perpetuate- that cherished j freedom for which our forefathers so valiantly . struggled. I believe in National Defense- against any "ism" harmful to human personality which, under God, is sacred. — President William Undsay Young, Park College, (Mo.). • LOOK OUT RENO The State of Georgia may soon displace- Nevada as Tht Place to get the knot untied unless Georgia lawmakers repeal an 186-1 statute that declares that a husband in the military scrivee of the United States is grounds for divorce. This law-, of course, was the result of Gvil War prejudice when any southern woman would have been justified by her neighbors for seeking a divorce from a "damyankee". However, the statute has never been repealed and today with the accent orl the military, Georgia might well out-Reno Reno. What could be simpler? When you get tired of a husband you ship him off to work for Uncle Sam, and then you go on a march to, instead of through, Georgia. • Give some fellows enough rope 3nd they'll try to pull something. • Look around you for danger when walking across the street. The neck will serve as a swivel for the head, but you have to use the head fjrst. • Then there was the cub reporter who was writing about two peroxide blondes who raised a fuss at the ball game. He just said ihe bleachers went wild. RAMRODS ... of the Sadie Hawkins day dance arc scratching their heads in an effort to find some novel method on which to base their admission charge. They had a swell ratio all worked out for charging coeds by the size of their waist, when the word got out and the gals threatened to boycott the affair. (That's significant of something.) And of course, the dance will carry the ruggeel mountain gal's theme all the way through, with the coeds asking for the dates, furnishing the rides, paying the admission and buying the cokes. atl.n. H.y Dey. .nd SMASHING ... the theory advanced by many that college students arc not to be trusted with self-government, the student body behaved in a manner that would do proud to any supervised group in last Thursday's assembly. Although the previous assembly hour's conduct was almost a knockout blow to the school's reputation, Thursday's conduct will go far to help FSC's name back on its feet. And the best part of it b that it was accomplished by the students themselves—there was never a word mentioned by an adm. official or an actual threat given.
