Also, the senate agreed to hold a special referendum election by a 20-2 vote November .10-11, presenting the resolution lo the student body for a vote of confld- The resolution reads in part, "That Dr. Falk's action In reassigning Dr. Burtner, Dr. Walker, and Flkes, and Mr. Walker without any consultation with official faculty or student representatives Is unfair, reprehensible and serves to undermine any sort of cooperation. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the FresnoState College Student Senate officially and wholeheartedly condemn the action of Acting President Dr. Falk of Fresno State College. ' FURTHER RESOLVED that the Fresno SUte CoUege Student Senate officially and wholeheartedly recommend that Dr. Burtner and Dr. Walker be officially reinstated as Dean of ArU and Sciences and ExecuUve Vice-President respectively, FURTHER RESOLVED that the Student Senate, because of a consplclous lack of due process and the questionable qualifications of Dr. Flkes and Mr. Phillip Walker, refuse to recognize these Individuals in their newly assigned positions. Further, that the Student Senate continue to honor and recognize Dr. Burtner, dean ot arts and sciences, and Dr. Walker, executive vtce- prealdent, as the rightful valid, and qualified holder of these positions." The senate debated whether or not the resolution should be tabled for next week until an Investigative committee could be formed to gather more Information on the matter. BUI Jones, senator from the school of Agriculture, argued that the senators couldn't possibly know all the. facts on the Issue. He further explained that this motion wasn't a veto for the resolution, but rather, an attempt to try to get more Information on the issue before lt came to a vote. Fred Sheriff, senator from the School of Business, said, "Tbe way, I look at the role of the President in this college or the president of a company is that he's the man who runs the show, and It's up to him to have the staff around him, and'that Includes deans or vice-presidents. These men are his staff. It's up to the president to have the men around him with whom he can work with best. And It's a shame if once in a while lt does happen awfully quick, but still lt Is his right to do it." Arlene pierce, senator from the School of Humanities, disagreed with. Sheriff, charging that Dr. Falk had violated all proper faculty procedures in the ExecuUve Vice-President's appointment. Quoting parts from the faculty handbook, she said, "Each procedure shall become operative when an opening exists or a new position at the same level of the administration is created." However, she added,- "Ihe commute right now cannot be seated because two members of that committee have not been selected." She said, quoting again from the handbook, "the committee In consultation with your appropriate administrative officer shall review the general qualifications required for the position. Also, the committee shall ensure a thorough canvas for candidates.
