To Srarers. though, these signs mean that a lies year is |um getting underway. Three weeks ot the current term arc already in the category of past cents, among which were class elections, which culminated yesterday when 195 voters used their franchise to choose leaders lor the tour classes on campus. For the past several years, these "chosen" persons have often held empty titles. They have perhaps worked in their official capacities once or twice during incumbency. Maybe there just wasn'r much for them 10 do and maybe this is how it should be. Maybe college students have outgrown "childish politics" and care only for their academic succes- .cs Maybe, but it is extremely doubtful Tin-. are smarter than that. Thc holding of a class office, if taken seriously, is a privilege. Being conducive to the exercise of a little responsibility, it provides a student with an opportunity to develop leadership, poise, and tact Good officers, too, make for interesting activity calendars. Up til last year it is possible that neither the time nor the inclination for any considerable amount of campus planning was available. Many of the officers were no doubt engaged in wartime activities. Right now. though, hostilities arc not being waged against any foreign country by the United States and ample anivi- tics for collegians seem to be in the offing. Each component of thc recently selected crop of leaders now has a new title to place after his name. Perhaps it will be meaningless, emp. t, Pe.li.cps it will stand for a semester of good leadership.
