For a provacaUve change of pace, catch MoUere's farce, 'The Ml- •The Miser' opens an eight- day run starting Thursday ln the Fresno State College Arena Theatre. Tickets are now on sale ln the FSC Little Theatre Box Offlce and are 25 cents with ASB The play's period ls Louis XIV: much has been done to recreate the flavor of the day. Elaborate wigs of various hues and textures have been designed by Chris Moad for the comedy. Linda Solo, a graduate student ln drama, has designed the suggestive and richly flbered costumes as part of her master's thesis. The gowns, Miss Solo says, are supposed to look as If they will fall off at any moment; some of the actresses Swope, Tompkins vie for editorship Other actors are: Sandy Brown, Jan McPharland, Robin Thompson, Albert Clrlmele, Joe Mar- quez, Annette Volpa, Dan Husak, Kathle Moody, Mike Fancher, Rich Flshman, Richard Rees,' Caryl LlnenbacH, Jack Gleger, By Jenny Bailey CoUegian Staff Writer Fresno State College students may be receiving added diversity in the Dally Collegian news content next semester If both applicants for the editorship of the paper live up to their proposed policy statement. Burton Swope, senior Journal- Ism major and Scott Tompkins, junior Journalism major, the only two aspirants for the office,have stated that they would both seek added diversity to meet the demands of the student body. Last Friday was the deadline for appUcatlons to be turned Into the activities office. will serve during the fall 1970 semester, and wUl be selected by the Board of Publications on Thursday. Swope, currently a staff writer on the Collegian, worked for three years on the Casa Gi patch In Arizona. He worked on military pu serving ln the U.S. Army and,ls a member of Phi Kappa phi, honor society. Swope stated ln his proposed statement of policy that he would ■follow current guidelines of the Board of Publications and strive for excellence ln reporting and He also said he would 'seek added diversity ln content so as to serve the student body better and to make the Dally Collegian more relevant to the needs and desires of the majority of students.* He cited that the paper would follow an 'open forum* poUcy on student newspaper editorially. Scott Tompkins Is the second applicant for the position. He ls a member of Sigma Delta Chi (Professional Journalism Fraternity) and the FSC Public Af fairs Committee. He ls currently News Editor of the Daily Col- He was a staff member of the West Side Index and the FSC Insight and has worked on the Mo- desto'-Bee as a sportswrlter. In his statement of policy he stated that he would 'hope to make the CoUegian a more well rounded publication, emphasizing a greater variety of news.* •I Intend to keep making the pollUcal issues of the college a major priority, but at the same time t would like to make the paper more credible ln the eyes of the entire academic community,* he states. Chicanos present demands protesting arrest of five in Reagan demonstration Daily Collegian THURSDAY, APRIL 9, 1970 Two hundred Chlcanos marched ln front of the FresnoCountyJaU yesterday while five presented a list of demands to police officials protesting charges filed against Chicanos who were Involved ln a demonstration Monday night at the Hacienda Motel prior to the arrival of Governor Ronald Reagan for a fund-raising dinner. Chicano students at Fresno State College called a press conference at Baker Hall this morning to discuss the demands. Due to a 9 a.m. press deadline, the Dally CoUegian could not cover the story for today's Issue. The demands, presented to representaUves of the police de partment, were: a pubUc apology be made to the '(1) That the charges brought Chicano community for the un- agalnst five Chlcanos arrested necessary brutal physical force April 6 be dropped Immediately (All five have been charged with various misdemeanors ranging from trespassing to unlawful assembly. The Fresno State CoUege Student Senate yesterday rejected a suggestion by FSC AssoclaUon Director Earl Bassett to raise student body and College Union fees for part Ume students. The proposal was designed to make the fees uniform with new Increases established by the CaUfornla State CoUege Board of Trustees. The trustees recently eliminated the part-time status tor students taking nine units or less, thereby causing them to pay'the same fees as a full time student. By rejecting the Increase, which would have amounted to 915, It means tha the part-time student at FSC can expect to pay that much less than the full Ume student when he enrolls next se- The senators also heard an appeal from Osby Davis, one of five students arrested In an Incident ln which Phillip Walker, dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, was allegedly detained against his wlU. Davis called for Uve Senate to make their position clear on the rehiring of the ethnic studies faculty and on the Educational Opportunity program. Tim Garcia, candidate for Associated Student Body President, was found guilty yesterday by the ElecUon Committee of vlolaUng Article V, SecUon A," Sub-secUon 4 of the ASB Election Codes, *acUve campaigning before the official date.* ; The committee decided to penalize Garcia "with a formal written reprimand, charges stemmed from a story that appeared ln the Dally CoUegian on April 3. In the story, President Pro Tem of the Student Senate GU Acuna was quoted as saying he was withdrawing from the race for student body president and throwing his support to Garcia. The committee ruled that Acuna was a 'supporter* of Garcia and that Garcia was present at ' the Ume the statement was made. The committee said Acuna's s tate ment wa* a 'campaign statement* and neither he or Garcia made any attempt to stop Its pubUcaUon.
