Th* Silent Majority, Praises Administration By Thomas J. Thornwall Eliminating the Experimental College ls one of the essential steps president Karl Falk needed to take to bring education at Fresno Stste College back to a level of normalcy and decency. Under the weak-kneed administration of Dr. Frederic Ness, education at FSC degenerated to a point at which almost any pervert with an Idea could start his own 'progressive* education program — with Ness' blessing. The Experimental CoUege was one such pro- Durlng Its three years of existence students were duped Into believing that education should be meaningful and Interesting. Needless to say, this sick philosophy has led many students away from the real purposes of education—to learn to work hard, submit to authority, and to learn to think ln the patriotic, Christian tradition of The failure to crack down on students and teach them this respect was one of the. causes leading to the Comi and on many of the nation's campuses. One can only admire the methods of Dr. Falk and his executive vice president. Dr. James Flkes, for their handling of the situation. They have acted with the precision ot battle leld generals to divide the campus liberals and radicals, and accomplish their appointed task. On their first legal opportunity (when the E.C. did not have Its bulletin approve) they chopped the rrfogram. Fortunately It came at semester break, when many students were vacationing, so there has been little opposition. However, It ls unfortunate that many people these days are willing to pre-Judge an Individual without giving that individual his analysis; but at this point, my experience has .been with this group. 'On several Instances I have Issued personal invitations for representatives to come Into my office to explore avenues of constructive efforts. To date, I have not had any reply. Several attempts have been made to express publicly what was actually meant by the statements attributed to me In the Stockton Record. But It seems these also fall on deaf ears. Somehow these students must be made to understand that while we are deeply concerned with their problems, they are not the only citizens that have them. All of our people in low-economic situations face problems; our senior citizens are faced with a multitude of problems; the State Is going to have to take giant steps ln areas of education, tax reform, transportation, environment, crime, family planning, etc., etc. With so many pressing spend on areas where we get no response other than something NOW OPEN! Fred's Resturant New add procedure dropped On Monday of this week a mass student gathering at Fresno State College forced the Administration into making a major That afternoon their new pro- eedvre for adding classes was dropped (bidding for class cards ln the Arena Theatre) and the procedure was reverted back to the old system of obtaining add or drop cards and processing them at the Records Offlce after obtaining the Instructor's slgna- Monday more than 500 students Jammed Into the Arena Theatre area to try to get classes, and the result was mass hysteria. The waiting lines moved at a snail's pace, and many students expressed frustration and dls- by students who expected to make tho entire two weeks' changes during tne first morning of the Assistant Academic Vice President Paul McGulre, whoan- nounced the change, said, "The reason for doing away with the The old procedure will now be new system was the great tor- ln effect throughout the Spring moll and exasperation evidenced This ls not to say that I have not had association with many fine Mexican-American people, because I have; and, together we are doing what we can. May I suggest that this ls not only the responsibility of Legislators but responsible student leaders have an undeniable responsibility to gather the facts and point these out to those who are more Inclined to draw conclusions based on emotions. A 275-mile slurry pipeline will deliver coal fuel to the plant from Arizona. = ■ — Edison is also active in the advanced technologies of EHV transmission, both A.C. and D.C. We're looking even further ahead to such direct conversion methods as fuel cells, thermionics, thermo- electrics and magnetohydrodynamlcs. It takes plenty of talent to make this kind of progress.
