The national debt, during the same period, has Increased twelve-fold - from $E8.7 billions to J369.T billions. Government has saddled our generation with this debt, and It will still exist after most of us Government has felt the need to provide many services for the people, or some of them, which they supposedly could not get from the private sector. Another occurred early this voters turned down a tax override proposal, which caused Madera High School to cancel its sports program for next year.' These events did not, of course, do anything to reduce welfare; however, they did keep money out of the hands of government and left It ln the hands of the people, to spend as they see fit. Now arises a new hope for the beleagured taxpayers, and this must be the best hope yet. There ls a move afoot to repeal the federal government's power to tax Individuals, now authorized by the 16th Amendment to the Constitution. This will force the federal government to stop many of Its programs, most of which are Illegal, and let the people spend their Incomes as they see fit. It will force the federal government to Uve by the Constitution It has thus far violated with Impunity, since the 1930's. It will return government to a position whereby It has less power to rule the Individual's life. This statement is a bald distortion of reality. Indeed there was a meeting. And It did last until one ln toe morning. We take great exception to this statement. The Student Senate empbaslzedrepeatedly to any group - and especially gathering of legal experts - we would hope that any administrator would have observed this distinction. Unfortunately, the Acting President did not.
