COLLEGIAN Opinions expressed In Collegian editorials, Including feature-^ editorials and commentaries by" guest vvrlters, are not necessarily those of Fresno'Statf College or the student body. FORUM THE DAILY COLLEGIAN Alcohol in the dorms Not t many people on campus have ever envied the life of a dormitory student. Girdled by rules and regulations and restricted to the Bicarbonate of Soda diet of the cafeteria, dorm students are forced Into a life of restrictions and blandness. Dormles have never had It good on campus. They must sneak away like thieves ln tbe middle of the night to taste the forbidden fruit of alcohol and. for the most part, meet members of the opposite sex ln well-lighted and rather sterile settings (well chaperoned, of course). Hope came to these unfortunates, however, with the passage of the 'Alcohol Bill* by the Executive Committee of the Academic Senate last May. This bill, allowing the consumption of alcohol In the dorms by those over 21 years of age, has passed both the Housing Committee and the Student Affairs Committee. Tl;,- h I sits. it Baxter considers this Uttle piece of Prohibition to be a low priority Item. There are several hundred students living ln thedorms. who voted overwhelmingly to have this right. How many students have to desire something before It can gain a priority0 One cannot help wonder If students' desires count for naught on this campus. it ls suggested that Baxter sign this bill and sign It rlghl away. Students on this campus have heen asking for rights and have been waiting for these rights for a long, long time. True, this may be a small Item ln comparison to Ihe majority of problems of the students at FSC. Yet, the treatment of our dorm students. I.e. the refusal to recognize their rights and desires by the FSC power structure, Is another fine example of the Inferior and begging position students are placed In on this campus. -D. H.
