Special days, special weeks, and joyous occasions will tumble happily-over each other throughout the year. There will be countless new opportunities for the reigning monarch of products and occasions which never before have occurred even to the most imaginative publicity i n have had a monopoly of the right of representation for special days and weeks. We think it is high time that American men get into the sw' things and demand their rightful place of leadership. Think how appropriate a symbol a jolly fat man wc for National Apple Pie Week! And, why not a sweetheart of Kappa Alpha Theta, Delta Gamma, and the other The king for National Long Underwear Week, for stance, might turn his week of reign into a publicity gimmick which attracts attention to his unquestioned appeal in "tights". Greek Life Described With the close of another semester nearing, plans are again in full swing on how to orientate the "Independents" on fraternity and sorority life. One of the greatest problems of the "Greeks" is to clarify the misconception that pledges will be submitted to all types of horrible physical and mental torture commonly listed under a pseudo-classification that "it's traditional." Not so, say the "Greeks" These traditions — popular during the times of bathtub gin, Charlestons, 23-skidoo, and Oh-You-Kid.— have been replaced by such horrible traditions as being required to study on specific nights set aside e study nights," not being allowed to spend three hours a day in the cafeteria but only long enough to lunch, and shaking hands with fraternity members that hope someday to call "Brother." The individual fraternities and sororities have different requirements for entrance with the majority requiring average the semester prior to pledging and the school requiring an overall "C" average in college before they will allow you to rush. The time of pledging varies from six weeks to ter and some groups require their pledges to maintain a average throughout their pledging semester and will initiate them until the following semester. Is it worth it? Although we can not speak for intra-fraternity procedures we can speak for a majority of the student body and faculty when we note with admiration the floats at in local parades; the Blue Key Carnivals each spring; the beautifully decorated doors on campus to celebrate the Yule Season; the annual "Greek Sing," and their lesser known, but more important activities work details that go out to the Children's Nutritional Home every Saturday to offer mental, physical and monetary "ie less fortunate.
