Let's lake il slowly, calmly and and soo what It is all aboul as a predicted 5.500 students begin today, starting at 8 a.m., to file in five long lines into Iho now oampus gymnasium, (first view left). Wilma Wight, the registrar, estimates some 450 of thoso students are new lo Fresno Stato College. This total includes transfers and those returning after a semester or more absence. But it ired. she said, thai many have left FSC ■ (graduated, dropped, etc.) and tho over all total thus averages out about entering the gymnasium, the old and new students meet Ihe six cashiers on duty to take their $31 fees (center scene). The fees include $9 for a studon; body card and $2 for medical care. Then, when tho students have paid those tuition costs and conferred with their advisors over their class schedules and general class sigr.up strategy, and had Jho^profossor sign the tedious but nonetheless vital blue- books, they proceed to the new campus library to begin tho morale-crushing task of signing into classes (scene right). At this time students join the long lines throughout tho second floor reading room of the library to "sign in" — if they are in timel Seniors, with priority cards, who with the students whose names start with O-R. have tbe advantage of being first lo sign-up. Students who must wait until later only can be advised: head for tho crowded classes first, and pray.
