EDITORIALLY SPEAKING Students Polio Prone An intensive drive is being conducted in Fresno County the local chapter of the March of Dimes this month. On thel Fresno State College campus no big organized campaign is planned with the exception of the pop concerts to be put by the music department in the cafeteria. However, the editors feel that certain facts should be brought to the attention of the students concerning the im- ]x>rtnnce of contributing to this very worthy cause. William Hylierg, Fresno County campaign director for the March of Dimes, told The Collegian the age group polio hits t he j hardest is shifting. In 1954 early teens reported 8.4 of the cases while the age group 20 and over went up to 24.5 per cent. In 1955 the early teens had a slight retrogression when they went back to 9 per cent but those 20 and over increased to 25.9 per cent the cases of polio reported in the nation. These, of course, are just dry and monotonous numbers but they do indicate the rise in polio in our age group.
