For it appears that there, is a Ouiia board shortage in Washington — and how will the i austere gentlemen know which way to turn ■without the aid of the know-it-all board? How will they know what candidate to back; how .will they know which way a ballot-will turn; ' ' how,- in fact, will they know'if the Senators will be tops in their league this year? j *lfis possible that they Alight confer with . spiritualists, mediums, astrologers, astronomers, Iclairvoyants, fortune tellers, or even general assortments of hand-holders, tea-leaf readers, ■ and crystal gazers—but most of these forctell- I en of the future are booked up for six weeks p in advance. . For the fact is that congressmen are not the only ones fascinated by the occult — everyone from housewives to government girls hold hands with -the palm reader. B The favorite question is, "when will the war end?" One girl at Arlington Farms, dormitory for government -girls, bragged that her board never failed to.answer her questions. It has predicted, for one thing, that Germany wflT give up hj August of 1945. The same board, asked if Roosevelt will run for x fourth term, was generous with its answers. One night, with no hesitation .at all, it said yes. The next earning, with equal assurance, it declared ho. \ The somewhat bcwjldcrcd government girl who owns the board is almost afraid to try again — but she suspects the next answer will bemaybf ' / . Even though her Ouiii mystifies her, this particular girl is fortunate. As least she docs have a board. Others, finding it difficult to knake appointments with the family fortune teller, have tried to purchase the mystic wooden slabs, only to find that the novelty shops can pot keep them in stock.
