Today marks the removal of another of the
many traditions once gracing the campus of
Fresno State. The far-famed tradition that
fraternities and sororities should have the privilege of filling the front rows of the auditorium
in return for a faithful pledge to keep those
same rows occupied at all college programs has
passed into the discard along with the many
others that have passed by the road in somewhat the same manner.
Through misuse or degeneration ten or
eleven of the traditions that used to be—the
glamour and mystery of the college campus—
Where, for instance, are the old Men's and
Women's Courts of Tradition, the frosh "dink"
ruling, the strict law concerning seating in the
student body assembly, the Fresno State College Library Seal tradition? Why docs a bench
have to be placed over the only remaining evidence of a tradition at Fresno State in order
that it can technically be called a tradition?
The general feeling of the student body
towards the "No Smoking" in the corridors has
disappeared. Now co-eds and men wander from
class to class entirely oblivious that once there
existed such a tradition at State.
The student body offices of Historian and
Sergeant-at-arms no longer are active. Only the
shell exists with its empty honor and prestige.
The once sought after positions on student committees and boards are now considered mere
favors to hand to close friends to use as stepping stones to higher and more exalted positions. Members of the once powerful Court of
Traditions are no longer active in student affairs. Members of the body are even unknown
to each other.
-The once vigorous political campaigns for
student offices have given way to insipid, uninspired contests for a major portion of the
of si

lovers as student helpers on the gates created
a Good Thing for themselves with "unofficial,"

Diogenesfprinciples, bank-tellers from the local
banks were placed on the gates to irradicate sorrow for Honesty-disciples.
Regret was voiced in many spots but the
Burning Daylight Lajnp was considered and
students remained merely spectators for the
last games. Now peering toward future horizons there are new suggestions to ease the mind
of the Wise Man of the Barrel and his followers.
The Burning-Daylight Lamp will have to be
mechanized in the form of registering turn-
styles at the Stadium!

the entering of each person were installed. Students would be able to work with absolute check
