MILTON LAWRENCE REPORTORIAL STAFF EDITORIALS "We Demand (or Desire) a Gossip Column"—Collegian's Mildly Interested scratched out and desire superimposed) o continuation of the 'Behind the Screen' column or Gossip Column." A piece of binder-paper with an assortment of 41 names in ink and pencil written below the declaration brings into the open has been gathering impetus ovei State campus. With this group declaring i selves upon an issue that can only be considered of small importance, it is necessary that editorial notice be given to their request. The Collegian is impartial regarding the question 1 To either condone or decry the petition is not for The Collegian to attempt at this time. That there is enough interest in the paper to prompt this move is sufficient for the publication. The sentiment varies on the campus regarding the issue. It ranges from the expression "I want a gossip column and a lot of kids want it" to "It's nothing but prep school material and I have no use for it." Between those two camps the school varies. The Collegian likes to stand and watch as a spectator while the factions war over whether they should or should not have their scandal column. In this matter this publication has, no doubt, assumed what will be termed a smug or pompous attitude regarding the question. Also, The Collegian hopes that there will be more expression from all groups. Yet, The Collegian is interested merely because the question has all the elements of an engrossing squabble that it will be able to watch disinterestedly— and remain on the sideline as a spectator. ~^; ...THe'et&TOP* FLANNEL SKIRT *59B WORN WITH A MATCHING CIRCUS COLORED PUU.ON A?otrS&Aos The announcement today that $166,000 had been allotted to the college for the construction n with another $135,- 000 to be allocated by the Federal Government to make a total of $300,000 marks another step " n the building program planned by college officials "" the largest enrollment at Fresno State s beginning in 1911. For years after our college had grown to be 1 largest state college in California, Fresno State men were forced to do without adequate physical education facilities and to forego gymnasium athletics, excepting when the facilities of high school quarters could be obtained. Now it appears certain that Fresno may rank with the rest of California's colleges by having its own gymnasium. This is only a part of the expansion program planned by college officials; ' planned and more allocations will be needed to supply the needs of the college and its students; The next building in line is a student union and administration structure to create needed office well as give a more modem and spa- jp to the students. The allocation mnde yesterday by the state ' ^cumulation of more years' work and efforts on the part of officials and students. When a grant of money w.i-i mnde by the state some time ago to supply g needs of its state collet, Kre-no ot apply for a portion of the funds, ainder of the colleges.
