THE COLLEGIAN COLLEGIAN EDITORIAL FEATURE PACE ■MS&SEE I.E1.ANI to Ibe Editor ROSEMARY W. KR1KAVA • Editor" ' n^BAJLET - - - >'■ '<•■='• '7: RE'ro?dTORen'' Mrtta tSS Kyle. Howard Rich cacre. Ben American Agaton Cnii. XBL 7,71 We are all so much inclined to take health for granted that we need an occasional reminder, such as the event of Health Week. The greatest series of tragedies which I have ever observed have been the continual exampli of neglected health on the part of college students which have resulted in broken careers, bitter disappointments, and life-long failure. There is no subject upon which my advice and warnings seem to have so little consideration as that of health and the necessity of preserving it Young men and women alive with the eagerness and confidence of early college years are so certain of tinued physical power that too often they recklessly spend the reserves of health and resistance necessary to the fulfillment of their life plans. The result js a bitter disillusionment which casts its shadow of broken hopes over an entire circle of friends and associates. Too often it means added hardship and suffering to others who should have received help instead. The preservation of health may lie in itself such enjoyable way of living that it should appeal to us for its own sake. It only requires some limitation on our ambitions and the control of temptations to' irregularities in living which are in themselves usually disappointing as well as dangerous to health. The full vital sense of well-being which comes from wholesome recreations and well planned self-control in matters of budgeting time, planning for reasonable and adequate food, and exercising some intelligent direction ovei hours of work and play, more than repay one for the trouble. Such self-direction means not only a greater joy in a present sense of well-being, but a life-long investment as well in an indispensable basis for happy, successful living. FRANK W. THOMAS. Y. M.-Y.
