A Forget It We see by a screaming story in the Spartan Daily of San Jose SUte that Senator Sanborn Young of the San Jose district ta seriously considering a proposal to the California State Legislature to change the name of San Jose State to that of "California State ] College." While the whole thing is still merely a thought on t part of one senator, the Spartan Daily has stuck a big streamer their publication stating: "Name Change Looms at State." If that i« what you call looming then Fresno is already the University of Central California. To Senator Young we might say, "forget it," for after all, possible reason could exist for calling the Prune City institution I any such special name while all other state colleges now existing in California would merely exist by the names of cities in which they are located. No, Senator Young, don't you think it is taking I a lot for granted in asking that ONLY San Jose State should be called "California State College." In fact, we say again, "forget it. The bill admittedly would only call for a change in the name c the present institution, giving as is claimed by the Daily: "much to the college's growing prestige, and would cause it to receive national recognition." Well, naturally everyone wants national -recognition and all the prestige that can be gained, but why should one of a number of state colleges be singled out as THE State College of California? Of course, we expect the San Diego, Santa Bar | hara. Chieo, San Francisco and Humboldt State Colleges to welcome the latest brainstorm from the Santa Clara valley with open arms. Oh yes! So we say, "forget it." It might be of interest to quote again, this time taking the final paragraph of that sensational article which "scoops the world." It is possible, though not probable,.(and how!) Senator Young declared, that this bill could be introduced and passed before the Jubilee celebration, as a sort of 'birthday present' to the school" Well isn't that nice, but we are afraid that any Diamond Jubilee I will long be gone and forgotten before "California State College" -will be anything more than merely a thought.
