THE COLLEGIAN COLLEGIAN EDITORIAL MATURE PACF behind the screen ■SSSSS^ffiaiSrsa^' The Budget and Fees Again The Board of Directors is scheduled to go into another long, tedious session this afternoon in an attempt to balance the budget of the Fresno State College Association. Facing it will be the same problem that has been so dominant in past sessions and one which seemingly can't be avoided. Every year when estimated budgets are presented by the various activities, the same thing happens, namely the majority of activities ask for a raise, and as usual, the board of directors will have to slash until the activity amount is within reason. And after it is all over, the same complaint at being cut too much is again heard and the board is soundly berated. It is safe to surmise that this year's budget will be balanced in due time, without any particular activity getting too substantial an increase or of any other taking too much of a cut over past years. Yet, everyone will not be satisfied. , In the past the Collegian has advocated a raise it student fees in order that there be enough mone. fully cover all activities and to allow their functioning as they really should. Despite these attempts to get the students' approval of a raise, no action has been taken. To those various activities which have consistently asked for a raise and even to those who only ask for an occasional increase goes the dutj* of really working for an increase in student fees. The Collegian itself is not asking for any additional money this year and will not'do so as long as it is able to continue with the funds allotted; it seems only right that all other activities follow a similar line. The Collegian has taken its cuts in the past year and at the present time is functioning with less money than it did two years ago, but at the same time, it is giving equal service. All this brings forth the main point, that no activity has any good reason for requesting a substantial increase in funds when they are fully aware that the money is not available and that if they are to be granted the increase it would only detract from another activity which is likely to be equally, if not more, important. slant* ie sophs ire rnlgh.y an„ Stets In The News •Ri'SSRI.t.
