This sort of thing should be encouraged, as scholarships, for strictly scholarly attainment, have been sorely missing in the past at Fresno State. More valley high school graduates belong at Fresno State, and certainly this move will be instrumental in bringing them in. It is The Collegian's hope that more of these scholarships will be made available in the future, and that the amounts will be increased. Another commendable part of this scholarship set-up is the fact that the administration of these awards will also have charge of dispensing athletic scholarships, thus making it more certain that athletes of true worth will receive the awards. It is to be hoped that the board that passes out these awards will require more than mere athletic ability in the recipients of the athletic scholarships. The Collegian sincerely hopes that athletic scholarships will continue to be the servants of the college, and will never become the proverbial "tail that wags the dog."—Herb Milford.
