Sunday's edition waa no exception. There existed in this war-baiting column a story of the life of Ghengis Khan, one-time scourge of Asia. Said this section of the Hearst papers: "Today a new Oriental conqu. in the East . . . First he took Korea. Then he cut a path of devastation through Manchukuo. Now, defying the world, he is devouring the vast Empire of China itself. "WHERE WILL HE STOP? CAN HE BE STOPPED. WILL THE NEW ORIENTAL CONQUEROR PROVE TO BE ANOTHER GHENGIS KHAN, e menacing than Ghengis Khan, the new Oriental conqueror possesses the terrible instruments of modem warfare ..." "America has every reason to think of it! "WE MUST THINK—WE CANNOT STOP THINKING — OF WHAT MAY HAPPEN TO US. Yes. Mr. Hearst, the article makes us think. It makes us think of some Occidental powers that woke Japan up, and now cannot contend with her. It makes us think of a young national state being reared in a time when modem ing, but what takes it from the news colump and into the editorial is the fact that the closing of the tour marks the complete demise of the folk opera for this generation. Never will the cast, that was personally directed by George Gershwin, be assembled. The curtain is completely drawn. Yet, another factor that causes this item editorial treatment is the recognition of the Fresno Musical Club and its work to secure the negro folk opera for this city.
