Jiggs Payne Must Go to Kansas
The big game is over. The students are discouraged, for
there was something lacking in that big game bvtweei. such two
rivals as the College of Pacific and Fresno State.
Mtny are agreed that this deficiency was fight. The Collegian It inclined to think to. also. It could not have been a lack
of supjnrt from the student*, for almost BOO of them were
packed In the stands from Ei-ano.
It must have been fight. NeverUide**, there wu one little
halfback on that Bulldog team who showed that he had fight
and lots of It. That bock waa Jiggs Payne.
Jiggs always hat played a fighting brand of football and
lust Saturday was no exception. He only came off the field when
ho had to ha carried off with a badly insured ankle. Today Jiggs
Is in bed. Thursday the team I**., i tor Kansas in the first inter-
neeOonal eo.tcst in which Freanii hai crer participated.
When the team leaves, Jiggs will be on crutches. Will he be
taken with thu t-u»d» There Is a question that is controversial.
In depression times flnancea must, of course, be considered.
There will be thote'who will argua that because Jiggs will be
of no value to the team because of his inability to play, he should
not be taken with the squad.
The Collegian in voicing the opinion of a great many students Is inclined to disagree Jiggs MUST BE TAKEN with the
squad. The college can afford tn sin-ntl the! money to take such
a man, for evenbla pretence will mean a great deal,
