EDITORIALLY SPEAKING Editors Place Blame A few irresponsible freshmen have done serious damage to the reputation of their class and to the Fresno Stati College student body. But they were not the only ones t< blame. The Student Court, in a legal sense, has asked that the responsibility be laid upon the class as n whole. Why! This is why. The class was given the privilege of havir an annual activity on campus. Frosh classes of the past have not abused this privilege. The activity, a part of the Frosh- Soph Brawl, was as usual totally unsupervised by the administration or any faculty sponsors. Responsibility for the affair was left in the hands of the Freshman leaders who failed to live up to that responsibility. This year individuals in plain sight of all participating. broke State laws and acted in a disgraceful manner by drinking on campus and stealing and destroying school property. Now. before anyone g.*-< off half-cocked talking about how kids will lie kids and how unfair it is to " reputation of the whole freshman class for the let's take these facts into consideration. The whole student body will stiff, r and possibly lose some privileges. The officials will feel none of us can be trusted. The Collegian uses this unfortunate incident as a public ••sample. Individuals and groups, students or administration, will obtain no mercy from this paper if they break laws, abuse trusts or otherwise do inexcusable wrong. Student leaders must take their responsibilities seriously. The Collegian lacks the court's recommendations t< Student Council to require the freshman class pay for the missing items and the damage done. We asked, along * the court, that the class be censured and safeguard.- proposed to insure that such disgraces do not occur in future. Otherwise, the activity should be abolished.
