Maybe none of'the Koreans arc able to speak English and maybe their meager education will not p them to thank us, if they are able to, in the convention j ner. But if we, as students attending an institution of fa learning, would be able to enjoy the looks of gratitude and inner comfort which characterize humans on receipt of son badly needed assistance, we would be' more than repaid ft Uterary Fellowship Competition jbllshlng firm. Dodd. Mead, and Compan: Winter in the orient hits its peak during the months of February and March and, from all indications, the clothes which we donate now will be distributed in Korea wit! " Most of us have never experienced being caught sub-zero weather, and if we have we're sure that those who have were loaded down with warm clothing. Statistics show that the majority of the wandering horde of people in Korea is without any form of foot covering. Thus thousands of South' Koreans may have nothing to look forward to but a cold, painful loss of life and limb. ' With the United Nations fighting a war in the area these nomads will have enough to worry about without pleading to the world for warm clothing and food. We gripe about our roll as a nation when we think of supplying the world with money, arms, and munitions, to aid in prolonging the conflicts that are more and more becoming a part of modern life. But to help in alleviating the suffering of countless thousands of unfortunates we must agree that such a heartwarming move would do our hearts and minds good. To those students who arc just starting their college recrs we feel they may not look at the world situation as juniors and seniors do. To us, who will soon be a part of the UN forces fighting a "cold" war between two large nations who are afraid to turn their backs on each other, the conflict in the East is quite significant. Soon many of us will leave FSC and will participate in battles which will cause many people to vacate their homcj and lands to seek refuge. Then it will be too late for us tc stop and help others. Only as individuals will we be able tc act as "Good Samaritans." We're convinced that those old trousers of yours,.or thai topcoat that you never cared much for, would be welcome food to a "clothes hungry" world. How can we turn our head the other way, when these peopli are suffering because we had a hand in turning their country and homes into a shambles of war? Just a few minutes of digging through the closet and look- rng especially for old shoes will create an image of warmth, and bring a grateful smile to the faces of many Koreans. Remember the drive will close Friday, and remember also that we owe it to the people in Korea whose homes have been razed by American ammunition as much a rawing froja their ow COLLEGIAN H»'ionalAfJTertsuitSerric«.lric, VALLEY TYPEWRITER CO.
