The varsity has been going through spring drills the past three weeks, and this Friday- night the 1974 Bulldog varsity win be revealed In the annual Spring Alumni Football Came. Coach J. R. Boone la very enthusiastic about this year's BluU- dog squad and will be looking for his second spring game victory In a row. Laat year the Boone's farmers walked away with an easy - 21-7 win, one'of the rare wins the Fresno e'even was to experience all year. But thla year promises to be different story, or so says alumni coach Jack Gregory, current Roosevelt High School mentor. It looks like we will have about 40 ballplayers out for this year's game. Some are working out now- and the real should be out at the first of the week,' said Gregory. No one Is aware of the Bulldogs' need for Improvement more than Boone and the recruiting he haa done for this year's squad should greatly bolster both Fresno's offense and defense. •We have better alze than we did last season and we think a Among those coming to the Fresno campus to play this fail wlU be Calvin Young, Reedley J.C. All-j quarterback Rick Jelmini from Fresno City CoUege Is another outstanding prospect landed by Jelmini led the Rams to the state Junior coUege football championship last season, yet probably won't see action for tbe varsity Friday night. He has been suffering from a groin Injury acquired in a gym class mishap and has yet to put on the full gear this spring. •It would be kind of foolish to play Rick and really tear him up for next fall.' said Boone. Fortunately for the Bulldogs, Jelmini Isn't the only person with excellent credentials. RichWath- en and Rod Kraft are back for their sophomore year, and Cer- ritos CoUege transfer Neftalt Cortez has been Impressive during spring drills. Krafl threw a school-record five touchdown paases In Fresno's closing win over Northridge last year and Wathen Is a capable thrower. But Cortez may be the best" of all. Speaking of Cortez.
