Staters patronizing the "non¬ profit" coffee shop pay prices comparable to those charged in profit-making restaurants. That is deplorable, but the main rub of the business is that in the case of hamburgers, the coffee shop product is decidedly inferior to those bought in commercial eateries. This has been pointed out various times in the past. Nobody takes any action, except in one case last year the price of doughnuts was lowered as a result of student comment. Last year's attempt by the Collegian to delve into the coffee shop situation was pres. sured to a standstill with the plea from school officials "for a little time." The only result was the doughnut price cut. Now. a report from the College of Puget Sound on a recent survey of west coast col¬ lege food prices indicates that Fresno State has the highest basic index of the eight schools listed. According to the survey, FSCs index is not only the highest individual rate but is 281.5 to the average of 243. The Collegian's point is that the coffee shop product does not compare with that served in money-making restaurants on a pricc-cuality basis. It is time someone checked into the coffee shop situation. Staters' food money should go further.
