At the start of the rally, GuU- lermo Martinez, chief spokes¬ man for the Mexican-American Student Confederation (MASC), atated that members of BSU and MASC nave offered to come Into any class to explain the demands and the lack of responae N> the minority problems at FSC. Emphasizing this lack of re¬ sponse, Martinez noted that only six professors have accepted the l> sympathy or pro- plastic buckets were passed Friday to collect any donations that students would Uke to make to the Educational Opportunity Program, the funding of which is a major factor in the protest. •We (students) must take tbe Initiative in raising funds for EOP because we cannot take tbe word of Ness or anyone elae. •We are talking to you (the student body) now. We have talked to the administration and faculty and they have not responded. •We mean business. We wUl not give up our struggle or be i. We n Martinez urged students to 'get out of the sympathy bag and into the activist bag' by supporting Richard Keyes, chairman of the Black Studies program, empha¬ sized the basic problem is alack of understanding by the adminis¬ tration as to tbe 'nature of tha protest.'
