EDITORIAL COMMENTS All For Charity All too often professional athletes are accused of being I completely mercenary. In many cases this is true, *ut pro-| fessional sports also can show with pride its charitable side. The National Football Loajruc made I wonderful gesture I for charity this week when it purchased $7,500 in tickets for the Thanksgiving Day Mercy Bowl in Los Angeles.' These tickets will l« distributed to orphanages through¬ out Southern California enabling thousands of youngsters to attend the Mercy Bowl. The Mercy Bowl, a one-shot charity football game, was proposed last fall by Dr. Ferron C. Loose of Los Angeles State Cnllege following tho tragic Cal Poly plane crash which killed 20 persons at Toledo, Ohio. Proceeds from the Mercy Bowl will go to the Cal Poly Memorial Fund which has been established to aid the fami¬ lies of the athletes injured and killed in the mishap. Even the rental of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the site of the game, has been donated to the Mercy Bowl. The college will have the opportunity to make anothel contribution lo the fund providing the football team car win another CCAA football title this fall. The winner of the CCAA crown will meet Bowling Greer College in the Mercy Bowl on Thanksgiving Day. College students at this and other colleges were generous in their contributions to the Cal Poly Memorial last fall.
