comments came from faculty members, some from students.
It seems thai at this school, cheating is handled indjvit •
ually by each instructor. The faculty handbook has this tc
say alniut cheating:
"Cheating and dishonesty in the classrooms and in exam¬
inations are matters to l>e handled by the instructor. It if
the obligation of all faculty members to lake every reason¬
able precaution to prevent cheating." The handbook says an
instructor should make sure he has a case of cheating, then
talk it over with the student and act. Penalty may include
"reprimand, change of grade, failure in the
inationor the assignment of additional work.
Appeals in such cases are made to the division head and/or
the Dean of Students.
Some persons we have talked with believe the policy
lined in thc faculty handbook is not strong enough and we
are inclined to agree.
It seems lo us that there is no clear policy which sets the
initial "atmosphere" as to how the school looks on cheating,

firm and clear-to-all stand on just how cheating is looked
upon by the students, faculty

// all started rvith my shopping trip yesterday with
my dear friend Maggie. I'll start at the beginning. 1
didn't gel out of school until 2 o'clock and I mas jutt
pooped from sitting in class for nearly 48 minutes. (The
teacher vat three minutes late and kept us after the bell
rang for a whole 60 seconds. As soon as we were dismissed
I rushed out to my little foreign car parked on the other
side ol the campus. This took at least 12 minutes and I
was supposed to meet Maggie at her house at 2:15. She
only lires about a half mile from school. Well, I would
hare made it on time but 1 ran into some difficulties. My
car (it's just a little one)

up either. Well, it took me another five minutes to lift
my car out of that tight squeeze.
When I got to Maggie's house. I was only six minutes
late. But Maggie Wasn't there, so I had to wait for half
an hour. Well, to make a long story shorter, we finally
