TV", as a rule, is a much safer medium for the apathetic ideologue. (Oops, I did it again.) Especially if you have cable, television can be a real friend. I recommend ESPN and WTBS. In general, these stations carry virtually nothing of social value and can be trusted to entertain you with a minimum of effort on your part (Be sure to buy remote control so you can flip between stations without intellectual interference.) I also recommend the major networks, but only during prune time. Between 8 and 11 p.m., the big three are, thankfully, so dedicated to extending their economic overreach that only a major catastrophe is likely to come between you and "My Sister Sam." Even if the President is shot or nuclear war breaks out, you will see a shot of the network logo, giving you just enough time to turn down the sound and head out of the room. By being on guard, the socially listless can avoid even a snippet of geopolitically meaningful information. Of course, most of you know this already. You've practiced apathetic responses ("oh, well") and indifferent postures until they are a way of life. You've skillfully avoided classes that could be socio-poli tically instructi ve. You can spot the socially conscious a mile away and you've learned how to avoid them. Imagine my surprise in reading about the reported rash of sexual solicitations in one* of the campus men's restrooms. What is even more surprising, however, is the outrage with which these activities have been greeted by some, members of your student body. Maybe I'm more worldly than I had realized, but I have friends who, in this same city, have encountered even more blatant and'■hostile sexual solicitations than those referred to in your paper. I know people who have been solicited by men for •explicit sexual acte while walking down the street, while recreating at local parks, while driving their can, even while doing their jobs at work.
