October 14,1967 « -Opinion - McCue's View snouts 'I trust this answers the nagging question about what a bear does in the woods" hurls into notoriety I came home from work one day ' about four days ago and I was met at the door by one of my friends. "Congratulations," she said, handing me a copy of The Daily Collegian. "You're now controversial." It seems that one of the "in" things to do this semester is write letters to the editor about articles that have appeared in the paper. It was popular last semester as well, but only for Ed Melikian and his supporters and opponents. (My one regret about last. semester is that I never met Mr. Melikian. I always imagined that he looked like Dustin Hoffman in All the President's Men, but I was never sure.) This semester, more students have taken up the reins and letters to the editor abound. At first I was a bit puzzled about my sudden "notoriety." After all, I wrote the same stuff last semester without even a peep from the campus population. Occasionally, people would come up to me and make vague statements like, "I read your column yesterday." But that's all they'd say. It drove me crazy after a while—and I was never sure how to respond. "Really? You read?!" seemed a little harsh, and "Did you like it? Huh? Did your seemed a little desperate. So I usually just smiled and said something artificial like, "Oh, thanks." This semester, I can hardly wait for people to greet me in class with, "I missed your column this week, but have you read the letter to the editor about it?" And since I usually haven't read the Collegjnn, I then have to go hunt for a copy so I can find out who I offended (or didn't) this week. It makes school so much more interesting. Personally, my theory is that the campus population hasn't changed so much from last semester—it's the column. Or, more specifically, when it comes out. -Last semester, I was the Monday columnist. Apparently, not too many CSUF students used to set their alarms f&r*a.m. on Mondays, hurl themselves out of bed and into the shower, just in time to get to campus before all the papers had been taken. It MUST be Wednesdays that are making me so controversial. What else could it be? I have had people look at me and walk out in front of me anyway. Why am I ex¬ pected to go around? Mest of the time there is' not room to go around and it is easier for the person to move forward or back. Also, people stand in the middle of the bike lane that runs past the College Union, they are just asking to be hit If the problem is to be solved pedestrians need to watch out for us and we need to watch Tor them. I have never seen any signs saying "no" bikes" in the Free Speech Area. Where is it posted? If you're looking for a solution to your problem tell the * pedestrians to stay out of the bike lane. v. Mr., and I use the term quite "liberally," Nicholas obviously has no i right side of his body. By expressing his leftist opinion about the President, he has exposed himself as being the idiot that he is. Although it is quite true that Mr. Casey was turned down as the/Secretary of State, he never realized it as a gain, in fact it was a "sore spot" with him until the day be died. If you had your facts straight you wou»d have known this, and the reasons behind this. L 'How you can say that Ronald Rea- 9 gan pursues repression and persecu¬ tion is beyond any truly informed ' person's realm of possibility. This statement is ludicrous and truly re¬ flects the miniscule I.Q. of the un¬ informed person who wrote it. He states that the right-wing perceives the President as "tentative." Give me a break! There's one thing that both conservatives and. liberals agree on, and that is what Ronald Reagan wants and believes in, he gpes after. Even a fool the likes of Mr. Nicholas should have been able to observe this over the last seven >\ars. Finally, he states that, President Reagan has turned the U.S. into a "weakened monster." As of this mo¬ ment the U.S. has more political clout than at any time since the Kennedy years. He also speaks of "global inte¬ grity" and how the country is lacking it. Get real! This country is light years ahead of what it was ... the "pa¬ per tiger" of the Carter Admin¬ istration is now just and embar¬ rassing memory. Mr. Nicholas do us all a favor and keep your political fallacies to yourself. It is obvious why your co¬ lumn is called "Left Foot Forward,", your right foot is in your mouth!
