Kuipers mentioned that the title of the department reflects what people think. Afterwards, the department decided to change its name and it held discussions with die staff regarding the reflections and the purpose of the entire department "We looked at what other institutions were doing, what names they were using and even talked to the people in their departments. We did research," said Schroll. It took'over a year to finally change the name, said Schroll. The proposal was fi¬ nally approved last semester by the Aca¬ demic Senate. The new name of the department will not appear in the catalog until next year since it missed die Fall '87 deadline for material to be printed in this year's catak*.
